Webcam Model Equipment: What You Actually Need

Camera

A 1080p webcam is the standard. A good one is all you need to start; upgrade once you know you are staying.

Lighting

Lighting matters more than the camera. A ring light or two soft lamps in front of you, slightly above eye level, flatter everyone.

Internet

Upload speed is what counts: at least 5 Mbps, ideally more. Use a cable to the router rather than Wi-Fi if you can.

Audio

Your laptop mic works to begin with. A cheap USB microphone makes you much clearer if you do a lot of talking.

Your room

Tidy, warm and personal, with nothing identifying in shot. Good bedding, a throw and a lamp go a long way.
